<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modification method for a connecting rod which can easily improve the rigidity and wear resistance at the inner circumferential face of a large end hole. <P>SOLUTION: In the surface modification method for a connecting rod having the large end hole of a large end and the small end hole of a small end, a rotating body inserted into the large end hole is rotated while interposing in the inner circumferential face of the large end hole surface, modification element powder composed of a material different from the base material of the connecting rod and modifying the inner circumferential face.
