PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems, wherein in an apparatus which corrects and joints the deviation of read images by separately reading one sheet of an original document in units of segments multiple times, when the resolution of reading the original document is low; and the accuracy of correcting the deviation between the images is lowered causing the degradation of the grade of the jointed images, and since it is necessary to store two sheets of images in a memory, when the resolution of reading is made high, it becomes impossible to memorize them in the memory. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus reads, in addition to the image portion image to be jointed, a jointed image in the vicinity of the region to be jointed among the original document with a resolution higher than that of the image portion image. The deviation of the image potion images is detected by the jointed image, the image portion images are jointed.
