PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing an optical element, which can control the temperature with high precision. SOLUTION: The apparatus for manufacturing an optical element, which hot-presses using a heated molding die, comprises a temperature detection section to measure the temperature of the molding die by using an output of a temperature detecting sensor to detect the temperature of the molding die, and a computing section to calculate the measurement error involved in the temperature measured by the temperature detection section to correct the temperature, wherein the temperature of the molding die is controlled based on the corrected temperature.
