Organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) having improved outcoupling efficiency by the use of topographical features (20) that scatter light. The OLEDs comprise a substrate (12) with an active element disposed over the substrate. The topographical features are disposed at a position where they are in the path of waveguided light (32) emitted from the active element. In certain embodiments, the topographical features have scattering centers (24) that scatter waveguided light emitted from the active element. The scattering centers may be microparticles. In certain embodiments, the topographical features have a reflective surface that reflects waveguided light emitted from the active element. Also described is a method for making an organic light emitting device. |
