The method involves providing a target geometry of a movable automobile component (10) i.e. rear flap, in a force-free condition (12), and providing a relative position of the component in an automobile. Actual geometry and/or actual position of the component in a force-applied condition (14) are determined by simulating deformation and/or position change of the component in the force-applied condition. The component is adapted to the target geometry in the force-free condition and/or the relative position during deviation of the actual geometry and/or the actual position.
