The actuator (1) has a control unit (5) cooperating with a control drive (2) over a valve rod (7) in a valve housing (31), and a position regulator (8) comprising a processor and cooperating with a memory, where the housing has a valve seat (6). The rod seals a valve interior (32) against an area (33) at a sealing point. Another sealing point is arranged relative to the seat, and a bellows (10) is connected to the points, where actuating parameters and characteristics stored in the memory are assigned to a condition of the bellows during a correct sealing between the interior and the area. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing correct operability of bellows of an actuator.
