PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device of a vertical movement table for accurately moving, used for a precision machine tool having a little variation in the tip end position of a tool supported by a spindle. SOLUTION: The drive device for the vertical movement table used for the precision machine is provided with: a V-V guide provided at the right and left of the front side of a column for vertically guiding the vertical movement table along the column; a guide plate which is provided at both right and left side end parts of the column, forms a box type space at the right and left respectively, and guides the vertical movement table; and a right and left linear motors which have coils disposed on both right and left side end surfaces of the front side of the vertical movement table, are provided in the parallel to the V-V guides in the box type space, and have permanent magnets opposed to the coil. The vertical movement table is driven by a thrust force combined by the right and left linear motor disposed on the right and left of the column in a virtual center of gravity position.
