PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a control method thereof capable of reducing the deterioration of an image by correcting a skew and the displacement of exposure scanning while a capacity of a memory is small. SOLUTION: A compressor 1 encodes image data in unit of 16×16 pixels. A write address generating part 3 generates an address for storing coded block data into a first memory 4, and stores a top address for storing the coded block data and the size of the coded block data in a second memory 5. A read address generating part 7 references an exposure displacement amount storing part 9 and the second memory 5 to generate a table about the decoding of blocks arrayed in a main scanning direction which is an exposure scanning direction for generating a read address of the coded data to be decoded. A line number to be outputted is set on a print line determination device 10. An expander 6 decodes inputted coded block data and outputs them to the print line determination device 10.
