<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system and an image reading method capable of changing a tilt angle of a main scanning direction to a sub-scanning direction to an adequate angle according to a width of a recording medium and a magnification ratio of a resolution. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image reading system has a read head 83 reading an image of a check 5, a head rotation driving motor 70 rotating the read head 83 so that a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction of the read head 83 may cross obliquely, a tilt angle calculating portion 112 calculating a tilt angle of the main scanning direction to the sub-scanning direction based on a length (width) corresponding to a magnification level of a resolution or the main scanning direction of the check 5, a head rotation driving controller 74 controlling the head rotation driving motor 70 according to the tilt angle, and an image correction portion 110 making correction to a second reading image when the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction cross orthogonally from a first reading image read by an image sensor 83a while the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction cross obliquely.
