<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device, a video display apparatus, an imaging apparatus and an image processing method for producing a natural image with inconspicuous boundaries even after different tone conversions are applied depending on image position. <P>SOLUTION: A tone conversion characteristic decision part 104 determines whether to apply a conversion based on tone conversion characteristics determined from statistics of an area where a pixel of interest belongs or apply conversion based on tone conversion characteristics determined from statistics of peripheral areas.
