PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly track an object by easily determining a tracking object by anyone even when a face and a name are not matched. SOLUTION: An autofocus system includes: an imaging means; an autofocus means for adjusting a focus of an optical system so as to be in focus of an object in a prescribed AF area out of photographing images; a focus object registration means for registering video information of the object together with character information as information for specifying the object to be a focus object; a focus object designation means for designating the object being the focus object during photographing out of objects to be the registered focus objects; and a verification means for verifying matching of the objects during the photographing and the objects being the designated focus object. When the objects during the photographing are matched with the objects being the designated focus objects, focus adjustment is executed for the objects during the photographing.
