<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately buffer data when data is read or written from/to a recording medium having a large sector size which cannot be recognized by an external apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A disk drive apparatus 20 includes a disk load unit 25 into which a disk D is loaded, a communication unit 26 which communicates with a PC 10, a RAM 22, and a control unit 21 which, when receiving via the communication unit 26 from the PC 10 a request for reading or writing data of a block corresponding to a second sector size of sectors which are obtained by dividing a sector having a first sector size and can be recognized by the PC 10, calculates the addresses and the number of blocks of the first sector size required for the request, uses the calculated addresses and number of blocks to read the data of the sector having the first sector size from the disk D loaded in the disk load unit 25, and stores the data as buffer data into the RAM 22.
