Provided is a hydrogen generation device including: a reformer (16) which generates a hydrogen-containing gas by a reforming reaction using a raw material; a combustion device (102a) which heats the reformer (16); a combustion air supply device (117) which supplies a combustion air to the combustion device (102a); a failure detector (110a) which detects a failure; and a controller (110) which controls the combustion air supply device (117) so that the cooling amount of the reformer (16) is greater upon an abnormal stop process executed upon detection of a failure by the failure detector (110a) than upon a normal stop process.
