The invention relates to a method for operating a thermal engine, wherein, after substantially isobaric evaporation at a higher pressure level, a working substance (5) is relieved to a low pressure level in a cycle and condensed again. In order to create advantageous working conditions, it is proposed to apply a fluid (3), which is pressurized by the pressurized steam (4) of the working substance (5) in at least one pressure container (1, 2), to a hydraulic machine (6) arranged in an intermediate container (7), preferably a fluid turbine, and after applying the fluid (3) from the pressure container (1, 2) to the hydraulic machine (6), the pressure container (1, 2) is connected on the steam side to the intermediate container (7) for relieving the steam (4) and the fluid (3) collected in the intermediate container (7) is recirculated into the pressure container (1, 2) via a return line (11) before the relieved steam (4) of the working substance (5) from the intermediate container (7) is condensed and evaporated again for renewed application on the container (1, 2). |
