<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed of a dithering process while preventing degradation of image quality. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This printer 1 executing a dithering process stores previously-prepared first dither matrices 51 in a memory 30. The first dither matrices 51 are repeatedly arranged in a sub-scanning direction; the columns formed of the first dither matrices are arranged in a main scanning direction while shifting the columns in the sub-scanning direction by a first predetermined number of pixels; the sub-scanning width is a sub-scanning width of the first dither matrix 51 in this arrangement; and second dither matrices 52 (32) of which the main scanning width is a main scanning width of image data 33 as a dithering process object are generated and stored in the memory 30.
