<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fiber consisting essentially of a resol resin, and having improved treatability by improving the low spinnability of a conventional resol resin, and improving the brittleness of the obtained fiber, and to provide the fiber obtained thereby. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the resol resin fiber includes coagulating a solution including a blend obtained by adding a polyvinyl butyral of 0.5-5 wt.% having a solution viscosity of 20-200 mPa s to the resol resin, and a solvent, in a coagulation liquid, drawing the coagulated product, and subjecting the drawn product to heat treatment under tension at 130°C or higher.
