PROCESS OF MAKING SALTS OF METOPROLOL

The invention describes a method of manufacturing dicarboxylic, acidic salts of metoprolol, prepared from metoprolol base of not less than 95 % purity, which results in a yield of 70 to 80 % and at least 99 % purity. The base is reacted with crystalline dicarboxylic acid in one or more aliphatic alcohols at temperatures between 50° to 70° C to form metoprolol dicarboxylic acid salt solution. The salt solution is subsequently cooled to directly form pure metoprolol dicarboxylic acid salt, which is isolated by filtering, washing and drying processes.
