A method is provided for the manufacture of a hoop, such as for garments including underwear or baby diapers. The manufacturing equipment comprises a production region 1300 defining a machine direction 1020 and a cross-direction 1021, and a surface 1301 lying in a plane of the machine and cross-directions. Support plates 1310 are mounted to rotate around an axis perpendicular to the said surface. The method comprises the steps of: providing webs (1210, fig 2B) of first and second material strips along the machine direction; separating a piece of each strip comprising front 1212, mid 1215 and rear portions 1218 along the machine direction; affixing each of the front and rear portions of each strip to a support plate of said rotating equipment; and rotating the support plates around their axes, such that the front and rear portions are positioned at an offset angle to the machine direction, and so the mid portions are folded over; and so that the respective front and rear portions of both strips are in registered positions for being connected together or to a further material (figs 2C-D). A 3D cup shaped garment is also provided. |
