PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a water-expelling property and to restrain toe-and-heel biased abrasion. SOLUTION: A pneumatic tire on a tread surface of which a lateral groove 1 extending in the tire widthwise direction is engraved is furnished with a projection 6 on a side wall 4 large in deformation out of the two side walls 4, 5 of the lateral groove 1, depth of the lateral groove 1 is specified as D, the projection 6 is within a range from a surface of a tread T to (3/4)D, height H from the side wall 4 of the projection 6 is more than 1/2 of width W of the lateral groove 1 and a clearance between the projection 6 and the side wall 5 to face against it is more than 0.5 mm.
