Apparatus for drying fabric B wound on a perforated cylindrical beam carrier 2 comprises a trolley 1 adapted to carry the carrier in a horizontal position, to the open end of which carrier is applied the mouth 13 of a flexible suction conduit 3 connected at the other end to a suction pump (not shown). A ring or plate 18 having an eccentrically displaced opening 19 and a smaller aperture 20 therebelow is mounted within the mouth 13 to restrict its cross-sectional area, and a metal tube 21 with a flexible pipe 22 is secured about the aperture 20 so as to be directed into the interior of and downwards towards the lower portion of the beam carrier 2 so as to be submerged in the liquid L lifted out of the beam B by the suction exerted through the aperture 19. The liquid L is removed through the pipe 22 into the conduit 3 either by the main suction pump or by another, separate pump (not shown). The mouth 13 has a truncated conical formation 16 and corresponding sealing ring 17 to abut against an outwardly-directed annular flange 12a on the end of the carrier, and a closuer member 23 having a handle 26 and a truncated conical formation may be applied to the other, open end of the carrier in similar manner. A battery of steam-heated pipes 28 are mounted in the base of the trolley to heat air drawn into the centre of the carrier through the material and a roller screen 9 may be drawn over the top of the fabric to assist in directing the heated air to the lower, wetter portion of the material.</p> |
