The method involves setting a target gear friction element loading control parameter depending on the load state after releasing initial gear friction elements. An acceleration value for a reference time for a 0 load state and released initial gear elements is compared with a reference value. If there is a difference indicating non-achievement of a required speed, a control parameter is influenced so the drive machine is pulled up by the output. The method involves setting a control parameter for loading the friction elements of the target gear depending on the load state after releasing the friction elements of the initial gear. A drive machine acceleration value for a reference time is determined for a 0 load state and released initial gear friction elements and compared with a reference value. If there is a difference indicating non-achievement of the required revolution rate in the second target gear, the control parameter for the engagement of its friction elements is influenced so the drive machine is pulled up by the output.
