Knob 2 of camera 1 is rotated, to advance the film and set the shutter, by an automatic mechanism which then also presses button 3 to release the shutter and make the photographic exposure. The automatic operating mechanism comprises two annular members 4 and 7, which may be of a plastics material. Member 4 fits round knob 2, and is secured thereto by a screw 5. Member 7 has a shaft 12 which passes through a hole in a supporting plate 13 to a reversible electric motor 11. Member 4 rests inside member 7, which has a lug 8 near its edge. As member 7 is driven by the motor in the direction f, lug 8 engages against a lug 6 on member 4, thus rotating that also and hence knob 2, so setting the shutter and advancing the film. Motor 11 is then reversed to return member 7 to its original position, this reverse rotation having no effect on member 4. The top rim of member 7 is shaped as a cam edge 9 having a raised ramp portion 10. If member 7 is now turned sufficiently far (i.e. farther than the previous rotation), this ramp portion will engage the button 3, so releasing the shutter, which remains open until ramp 10 rides clear of the button. At the same time, knob 2, and hence member 4, are released to return to their original position. The arrangement is suitable for taking successive pictures of an oscillograph screen, the instrument being secured to the supporting frame 13, 14. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates the whole apparatus assembled in the operative position. The motor 11 may be programmed to make a series of exposures automatically, and also to control more than one camera. |
