Archiving data on memory cards

A digital shoebox includes a card compartment for receiving a plurality of memory cards, and a controller configured to maintain them. Maintenance can include a number of functions such as monitoring media quality; content back-up and content refreshing. The controller can also prompt a user to add an additional memory card as a replacement, or to provide back-up storage space.
