The invention comprises an anabolic and estrogenic compound having the empirical formula C18 H22 O5, an optical rotation in methanol of [a ]25 DEG D = -109.5 DEG and a m.p. of 164-165 DEG C. and specified solubility, u.v. and infra-red properties and a process for the preparation thereof by cultivating the organism Gibberella zeae NRRL 2830 in a nutrient medium containing a grain selected from the group consisting of corn, wheat, barley, and oats, under aerobic conditions and recovering said anabolic and estrogenic compound from the resulting fermentation medium. Compositions containing said compound are administered orally or parenterally. A suitable injection suspension medium is peanut oil. |
