Aluminium alkoxide in a liquid which consists of or comprises aluminium alkoxides and in which are present compounds of higher volatility, e.g. mixtures formed by the oxidation of aluminium trialkyls with air or oxygen, are purified by heating the mixture to between 350 DEG and 550 DEG F. and then finely spraying it into a chamber at such temperature and pressure conditions that the compounds of higher volatility than the aluminium alkoxides are vaporized, and the aluminium alkoxides are recovered from the unvaporized portion. The purification may be in two or more stages, any solvent present being removed in the first stage. Vaporization in the second and subsequent stages may be effected in the presence of a gaseous or vaporized stripping agent which is removed with the vaporized portion of the mixture. Stripping agents used include natural gas, hexane, iso-octane or sweetened kerosene. The vaporization may be carried out at a pressure between 5 and 760 m.m. of mercury absolute.
