PURPOSE: An ice maker and a control method thereof are provided to reduce the damage of an ice-separating motor while ice is discharged and to improve the reliability of a transfer procedure of ice. CONSTITUTION: An ice maker comprises: a duct(10) which ice is discharged through; a duct opening/shutting part(20) which selectively opens and closes the duct; and an ice conveying part which transfers the ice which is discharged through the duct. The driving rate of the ice conveying part is increased during the set time if the duct opening/shutting part opens the duct to take out the ice. The ice conveying part is driven to the preset target speed after passing the preset time.
