PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for protecting a battery pack are provided to prevent a damage of spare parts by an excess current, and to improve the safety of the battery pack. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(200) for protecting a battery pack comprises the following: a fuse(240) and a sense resistor(210) connected with a circuit path with a charging current or a discharge current; a fuse control switch(230) controlling the fuse; and a schottky diode(300) connected with the sense resistor and the fuse control switch. A method for protecting the battery pack comprises the following steps: flowing the current through the schottky diode to the fuse control switch; and turning on the fuse control switch for melting and cutting the fuse.
