METHOD FOR SURGICAL TREATMENT OF GIANT VENTRAL HERNIA

A method for the surgical treatment of the giant ventral hernia provides for the use of multilayer non-adhesive surgical mesh of two types being implanted into the different locations. One nonadhesive mesh is implanted into the peritoneal cavity beneath the peritoneum, while the prolene mesh is implanted into the abdominal wall. The multilayer nonadhesive mesh is not fixed in the perimeter aponeurosis. In fact, first the edges of aponeurosis are sutured as close as possible while the defect to be left is closed with the multilayer nonadhesive mesh. The following reconstruction of the anterior abdominal wall is performed with the aid of the prolene mesh implanted onto the posterior layers of the sheathes of rectus muscle of abdomen. The space over the mesh is drained with polyvinyl chloride drainage. The prolene mesh is covered with rectus muscle of abdomen.
