The method involves determining image data of workpiece using two optical image sensors (1, 2). The sensors are arranged at different geometric positions, and image data calculated from the design data of the workpiece is compared with the determined image data of the workpiece for position determination of the workpiece. Image data set of the workpiece is calculated from the design data, and compared with the image data, which is determined by the sensors, of actual position of the workpiece. Lighting elements (3, 4) e.g. LED-arrays, are provided to emit light in an infrared region. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a position of workpiece.
