PURPOSE: A backlight unit is provided to improve optical efficiency by including a built-in grid polarizing plate. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode(120) is formed on a first substrate, and a second electrode(140) is electrically insulated from the first electrode. An electron emitting source(150) is electrically connected to the first electrode, and a fluorescent layer(175) is arranged at a position which faces the electron emitting source on the second substrate. A third electrode accelerates the emitted electrode toward the fluorescent layer. A wire grid polarizer(180) is formed at the one side of the second substrate to polarize the light emitted from the fluorescent layer.
