PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for inspecting the surface flaw of a hot rolled steel plate capable of inspecting the leading and tail end parts of the hot rolled steel plate. SOLUTION: The device of inspecting the surface flaw of the hot rolled steel plate for detecting the flaw of the surface or/and back of the hot rolled steel plate in a line of manufacturing the hot rolled steel plate is equipped with a linear camera for imaging the hot rolled steel plate, a surface inspecting device body having the flaw detecting function for automatically detecting the flaw of the hot rolled steel plate and the flaw image preserving function for preserving only the image of the detected flaw and a whole length and whole width image preserving device having the function for preserving the whole length and whole width image of the hot rolled steel plate. The signal of the image taken by the camera is branched by distributor to be sent to the surface inspecting device body and the whole length and whole width image preserving device.
