<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take appropriate measures to cope with the situation where the user takes time longer than necessary to replace a component or unit of an image forming apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a measurement section for measuring an elapsed time from the start to the finish of replacing the replaceable component or unit; a storage section for storing a reference time required for the replacement of the component or unit; and a control section that compares the elapsed time measured by the measurement section upon the replacement of the component or unit with the reference time stored in the storage section, and when the elapsed time exceeds the reference time, determines that the abnormality has occurred. Accordingly, the abnormal situation that the user takes time longer than necessary for the replacement work can be immediately obtained, and the necessary and appropriate measures are taken.
