<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is provided with a toner filling process to supply toner to a sub-hopper from a toner container and a toner supply process to supply the toner to a developing unit from a toner sub-container, and can shorten downtime until correcting an abnormality when detecting the abnormality in an image forming process based on a reference toner image. <P>SOLUTION: A control part 1 of a copying machine has a toner filing abnormality determination part 710 which is an abnormality occurrence part determination means for determining whether or not the abnormality is caused by the toner filling process based on toner filling data of a toner filling control part 410 and toner supply data of a toner supply control part 310 when an image forming process abnormality determination part 530 determines that an abnormality occurs somewhere in an image forming process based on a detection result of a reference toner image detected by an optical reflection sensor 605.
