PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a banknote handling apparatus, in which the increase of the height of a casing can be restricted, the capacity of each of a storage and a temporary holding storage can be increased, thus a large number of banknotes can be stored, and a depositing process for such a large number of banknotes can be performed in one dealing operation. SOLUTION: In a casing 12, a plurality of storages 40 for storing banknotes and a temporary holding storage 42 for temporarily holding banknotes are juxtaposed in a substantially horizontal direction. Further, diverting members 36 are installed at diversion points 35 in a transport unit 30 toward each of the storages 40 or the temporary holding storage 42, respectively.
