PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve appropriate display on respective display panels according to operation states and situations relating to capturing an image when providing two display panel sections on the front, rear, or the like. SOLUTION: Required display operation is performed according to whether a person exists in the direction of a subject for a second display panel section (front display panel). For example, a user of an image capturing apparatus monitors a subject image on a first display panel (main display panel) during a monitoring period, but performs monitoring display also on the second display panel when a person exists at a subject side, thus enabling a subject person to check the expression, pose, or the like of oneself to be photographed. Also, when there are no persons viewing the second display panel section, for example, in landscape imaging, the second display panel section is turned off to save power.
