<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shutter mechanism achieving the space saving of the storage space of the shutter mechanism, and having improved strength to thereby assure excellent crime-preventing property thereof, and a currency processing machine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A shutter mechanism 20 is provided with: a plurality of serially arranged plate-shaped members 22, 24 and 26; axial members 28 and 30 configured to connect the plate-shaped members 22, 24 and 26 so that each of the plate-shaped members 22, 24 and 26 can freely rotate with the axial members 28 and 30 as a center; and guiding parts 32 and 34 configured to guide a portion of the side edge of each of the plate-shaped members 22, 24, and 26 or the end sections of the axial members 28 and 30 so that each of the plate-shaped members 22, 24 and 26 can move between a closed position where an opening 41 of a currency port 40 is closed and an opened position where the opening 41 is opened.
