<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short circuit protection relay system removing a short circuit failure at a high speed when a short circuit line selecting relay device of a main protection is not used, and eliminating the necessity of the short circuit line selecting relay device of the main protection. <P>SOLUTION: A first power transmission terminal short circuit distance relay device 11<SB>1</SB>instantaneously generates a first trip signal T<SB>DZ1</SB>for interrupting a first breaker 4<SB>1</SB>on conditions that it is determined "to be a short circuit failure in two-stage operation zone A2", that a second short circuit distance relay device 11<SB>2</SB>installed on the own device side of an adjacent line does not determine as "a short circuit failure in the two-stage operation zone A2", and that first and second breakers 4<SB>1</SB>and 4<SB>2</SB>installed on the own device of the own line and the adjacent line respectively are both in an input state.
