PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a lithium secondary battery which is stable in propylene carbonate based electrolyte, and excellent in doping/undoping speed of lithium ion, battery capacity, and high-density packing property. SOLUTION: The negative electrode material for the lithium secondary battery is characterized in that its surface includes a plurality of recesses having a polygonal opening resulting from continuous extension of a plurality of ridge-like creases, and in that it includes minute carbon gloves wherein stokes mode particle diameter Dst measured with a disk centrifuge device is 500 nm or larger and the ratio La/Dst of crystallite size La measured with X-ray diffraction method against Dst is 0.04 or higher.
