SOLUTION: The negative electrode material for the lithium secondary battery is characterized in that its surface includes a plurality of recesses having a polygonal opening resulting from continuous extension of a plurality of ridge-like creases, and in that it includes minute carbon gloves wherein stokes mode particle diameter Dst measured with a disk centrifuge device is 500 nm or larger and the ratio La/Dst of crystallite size La measured with X-ray diffraction method against Dst is 0.04 or higher.
