<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metal-supporting inorganic fine particles having high ultraviolet-shielding performance, a method for producing such fine particles and an ultraviolet-shielding cosmetic product containing such particles. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The metal-supporting inorganic fine particles comprise inorganic fine particles having light absorption power in the ultraviolet range and having a surface-coating layer comprising at least one of compounds selected from the group consisting of oxides, hydroxides and hydrous oxides, and a metal having light absorption in a wavelength range different from that of the inorganic fine particles and supported on such inorganic fine particles. The production method includes mixing of an aqueous dispersion of such inorganic fine particless having light absorption power in the ultraviolet range and having a surface-coating layer comprising at least one kind of compounds selected from the group consisting of oxides, hydroxides and hydrous oxides, with fine particles of a metal, a metal oxide or a metal salt having light absorption in a wavelength range different from those of such inorganic fine particles, and irradiation of the mixed dispersion obtained by the mixing process with ultraviolet rays or the addition of a reducing agent to the mixed dispersion.
