The occlusion effect experienced with an earmold for a behind-the-ear hearing instrument or an in-the-ear hearing instrument can be reduced by using a vent of lesser diameter and introducing an acoustic resonance that couples with the inner ear. It may be realized as a duct communicating with an internal volume in the earmold or the hearing instrument.
