In a stretchable electrical heating element consisting of carbon fiber or metallic rovings or cords applied to an elastomeric support material, the pattern of the rovings or cords corresponds with the requirements for a component to be heated and/or shaped and the deposited roving or cord pattern is fixed to the support material by embroidery techniques. An independent claim is included for the production of the heating element by applying the rovings or cords to the support, where the application pattern of the rovings or cords is adapted to the necessary heat output for the required heating or shaping conditions and the pattern is fixed to the support material by embroidery techniques.
