PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile communication terminal for performing an intermittent search operation while efficiently performing power-saving by suppressing an increase in power consumption even when the search operation takes a long time, and an intermittent searching method. SOLUTION: An intermittent searching means 74 executes search processing for searching a base station and sleep processing for stopping the search processing in a predetermined cycle. Then, an allocation determining means 75 calculates a duty cycle of a search time from a sleep time and a base station search time, and determines whether a running mean value of the duty cycle exceeds a target value. When the running mean value exceeds the target value, a sleep time varying means 76 determines a sleep time so as to make the running means value fall below the target value. This makes it possible for the sleep time to take long in accordance with the length of the search processing even though the search operation takes a long time while it is difficult to determine whether to be outside or inside the area, or the like.
