The caking tendency of hexamethylenetetramine is inhibited by admixing therewith a mixture comprising (A) diatomaceous earth, or stearic acid, or calcium or magnesium stearate, with (B) benzoic acid, said mixture being used in a proportion of from 0.5 to 1% by weight of the hexamethylenetetramine, and the weight ratio of (A) to (B) being in the range of 5 to 1 to 10 to 1, the component (A) being used for preference in a substantially anhydrous form. It is preferred that the hexamethylenetetramine contains no more than 1% of water. The description includes details of the test for comparing the inhibition of the caking tendency and gives details of particle sizes of the various components. The examples include data of the effect of the single components forming the inhibitors for comparative purposes, to illustrate the synergistic effect on each other and further data is provided on the effect of water content of the inhibitor and hexamine itself.
|
