REGULATOR FLOW MEASUREMENT APPARATUS AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus that detects apparatus failure and identifies the location of the failure.

SOLUTION: A pressure regulator 10 is disposed in a fluid flow passage and has a throttling element 22 moveable in the flow passage. A stem 30 is attached to the throttling element 22. The apparatus includes a first pressure sensor 34 for measuring pressure upstream of the throttling element, a second pressure sensor 35 for measuring pressure downstream of the throttling element 22, and a travel sensor 44 for detecting the position of the throttling element 22. A processor 52 is provided which includes an algorithm for determining flow rate based on the measured pressure and travel values.
