<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxide film removal agent as a means for removing an oxide film essentially composed of copper oxide on the surface of an article composed of copper or a copper alloy, which reduces the restriction in the form and size of objective articles, has excellent removability of an oxide film, is hard to cause erosion of an internal metallic layer and is applicable even to various articles composed of the copper or the copper alloy under the general environment such as existing trolley wire. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The oxide film removal agent for the copper or the copper alloy is composed of an aqueous solution comprising a reducible compound having a mercapto group as an effective component.
