The invention relates to a pigment ink, printed product and a method for marking products. According to the invention, thermoplastic carbohydrate polymer is used as the pigment of the ink. The printed product comprises a thermoplastic carbohydrate polymer layer manufactured by printing such ink on a substrate. In the method according to the invention, a substrate is printed with such ink and a marking is embossed on the polymeric layer formed. With the aid of the invention, embossable layers and markings can be made on substrates in a simple and cost-effective manner.
