The system has a sensor, where the alternate signals are assigned to different conditions of sensors with signal quality characterizing those conditions in distinct manner. The alternate signals are periodic. The conditions of the sensor characterizing signal quality are frequency, pulse width and amplitude. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a sensor for detecting a level of liquids in a tank, particularly urea water solutions in a hot water lobster tank of a selective catalytic reduction system; (2) a method for transmitting signals of a sensor for a circuit unit, particularly a sensor at the controller of a motor vehicle; (3) a computer program stored on a computer, particularly a controller of an internal-combustion engine for executing the sensor signal transmitting method; and (4) a computer program product with program code stored on a machine-readable carrier for the execution of the sensor signal transmitting method.
