The seal has a sealing plate with a steel plate layer (18) having a sealing element surrounding a fluid passage opening i.e. combustible passage opening. The plate has an edge strip (16) for forming a fold (22) in an edge area of the layer. Thickness of the layer provided with the fold is larger than 0.15 mm, and the edge area is an area of the layer reduced in thickness by common molding of a contact area (20) and the fold. The fold and the contact area are elastically deformable in the thickness reduced area of the layer relative to the reduction of a middle thickness of the layer. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a flat seal.
