PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric tuning method of a thermal type overcurrent relay and the thermal type overcurrent relay in which excellent tuning precision is secured even in a maximum scale position when tuning is performed at two points of a minimum scale position and a central scale position, and which has hardly a tuning inability in the tuning range from the minimum scale position to the maximum scale position. SOLUTION: The thermal type overcurrent relay is provided with a bimetal which is bent according to a main circuit current, an interlocking plate to transmit displacement of the bimetal, a reversing mechanism part which carries out tripping action by contacting with the interlocking plate and reverses the switching state of the contact, and a tuning mechanism part which moves the reversing mechanism part and can adjust the position in which switching state of the contact is reversed, and has a movable limit respectively on the minimum scale direction tuning side and the maximum scale direction tuning side. The relay is specified so that the turning amount from the central scale position to the tuning mechanism part movable limit on the maximum scale direction tuning side is wider than the amount of turning from the central scale position to the movable limit on the minimum scale direction tuning side.
