The invention relates to communication engineering. The use of the invention makes it possible to check the location of network and telecommunications equipment in telecommunications racks. For this purpose, the fastening rail of a rack is equipped with an antenna which is connected to a radio-frequency (RFID) reader, location sensors are mounted on the rail, which change condition when equipment is mounted in the rack, and the mounted equipment is provided with a radio-frequency (RFID) tag. When the equipment is mounted in the rack, the equipment and the position thereof in the rack are identified by comparing the most temporally proximate changes in the response signal from the radio-frequency (RFID) tag on the equipment and in the signal from a location sensor.
